The rise of the shorter hair cut for the modern woman has taken off over the past few years; some of the world’s top models, such as Agyness Deyn and Karlie Kloss don the short haired ‘pixie’ look. Pop star Rihanna has also frequently cut her hair extremely short, making it an iconic, fashionable style for many young women and girls as of late.
Many models opt for the shorter hairstyle as having short hair accentuates your natural facial features and bone structure, which is why many catwalk models decide to have their hair styled in this way. Other styles of short hair include the ‘bob’ which is a more rounded, slightly longer cut however still stops just before the shoulders.
The ‘bob’ suits straighter hair
The ‘bob’ cut is worn by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes and offers a softer look to the short and spiky style that others opt for. This style became popular in the 1920’s and with the release of Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ earlier this year, the bob is set to make a comeback! The ‘bob’ is usually associated with straight hairstyles, but can also be worn curly for a soft, feminine take on the trend (see Kylie Minogue).
The shaven look is very ‘now’
Many women shave their fully in order to keep it simple and stand out. Singer Jessie J has just taken this approach, alongside famous model and actress Amber Rose. The shaven look is quite quirky and different, with many people dying the small amount of hair left blonde to further catch the eye. Again, this style is very fashionable and modern, it also really brings out the eyes and ears meaning only a select few really suit it. If you’re not feeling brave enough to take the plunge and shave your whole head, another popular choice is a shaved patch above the ear. Model Alice Dellal is known for pioneering this look and more recently singer Ellie Goulding has followed suite.
